BIO 318: General Botany (Lecture & Labs)
Structure and functions of vascular plants; morphology, classification, life histories, ecology and evolution of autotrophs, plantlike protists, and fungi. BIO 335: Plant Systematics (Lecture & Lab) Identification, classification and phylogeny of vascular plants; principles of taxonomy. BIO 349: Applied Learning in Biology Co-op experience in plant diversity. Work in the Ronald L. Jones Herbarium at EKU to gain curatorial and collections management experience or work with other organizations (e.g., Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission) on plant diversity related projects. BIO 525/725: Aquatic and Wetland Plants (Lecture & Lab) Collection, systematics, distribution, ecology, and reproduction of aquatic and wetland vascular plants. BIO 536/736: Dendrology (Lecture & Lab) Woody plant taxonomy with emphasis on field identification of trees and shrubs in summer and winter conditions; habitats and distributions; economic importance; forest regions of North America. BIO 595/795: Field Botany (Lecture & Lab) A summer course based out of Maywoods Environmental and Educational Laboratory, including classroom and field-based instruction. Wildlife students can substitute for Plant Systematics (BIO 335). BIO 598: Special Problems An independent research experience with a focus on any aspect of plant diversity. |
